Update on stolen bike from El Mirage

Good things do happen. Everyone that took pictures of our bike and passed it on, all of the blogs that picked it up, full coverage on twitter and instagram.....worked.

The pressure was enough to convince the thief/thieves who stole our bike to realize profit was not going to be made, more likely they were going to get their A** kicked if they tried.

At 2 am this morning we received an anonymous call telling us where the bike could be picked up. A tow truck was sent to a location in the Victorville area and our motorcycle was in one piece with minimal damage.

Minor damage, but looks a mess.

They sprayed it with WD or something, trying to hide prints?

Removed SCTA numbers and sticker, put other stickers on it to disguise it and most important, tried to start it and ride it but couldn't get it done.

Thanks goodness. If you haven't ridden a laydown landspeed bike before, let me tell you, you don;t take it for a cruise down your neighborhood block. It would have been totaled.

 OUR MOTORCYCLE WAS RETURNED! This would not have happened without all of your help and support. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.

Stolen Bike alert! Landspeed bike, laydown configuration, stolen from El Mirage on May 17th 2014

Someone stole this Harley Evo landspeed race bike at El Mirage during the night on Saturday May 17th. It's a 96cu.in. S and S motor. Five speed trans with kicker.

PLEASE look at the pictures and repost /spread the word if you can

It was displayed next to the motorcycle tech trailer with a for sale sign.  It was stolen between Saturday night sunset and sunrise this morning. (05/18/14)

This bike was custom built by Dave Iversen and is ridden in a laydown postiion with the shifter and brake at the back axle. IT IS FOR LANDSPEED RACING, not street riding but could be reconfigured for street use.

The return of this bike undamaged without facing charges is on the table for a very short time.

Your reward for doing so will be protecting your ass from the rath of our landspeed family... thousands of members WORLDWIDE. It's a strong community of racers. Hotrodders, riders and bikers....and ALL of them will be looking for YOU!

Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz vehicles were the most sought-after luxury brand among U.S. car thieves from 2009 through 2012

The New York City region had the greatest number of thefts, an insurance-industry group said.

 More Mercedes C-Class cars, a total of 485, were stolen during the period than any other luxury model, according to a report released Tuesday by the National Insurance Crime Bureau.


The New York City area, including Long Island and northern New Jersey, reported 806 thefts in the period out of a nationwide total of 4,384, the NICB said, citing data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

 The Los Angeles region was No. 2, followed by Miami.

The second-most-stolen luxury car was Bayerische Motoren Werke AG’s BMW 3 Series, followed by Nissan Motor Co.’s Infiniti G Series, the NICB said.

California had the highest number of luxury thefts of any state at 1,063, followed by Florida with 674. The Los Angeles area had 491 thefts.

 The number of luxury-car thefts has decreased in Los Angeles by almost 50 percent since 2005 as security technology improved, Smith said. “You used to be able to steal a car with a screwdriver,” Smith said. “Now with chips, computers and alarm systems, it’s much more difficult to steal a car.”

 The recovery rate of all luxury cars reported stolen in the period was about 84 percent, the study found.

The vehicle with the highest recovery rate was General Motors Co.’s Cadillac CTS at about 91 percent.

The Mercedes S-Class model had the worst recovery rate at about 59 percent, the NICB said.

Stolen Viper recovered 300 miles away, stripped of many expensive panels

The 2001 yellow, T-top sports car was stolen from a home in Plaistow New Hampshire, police said, and turned up under a ripped car cover at the Clinton Village Apartments on West Main Street, not far from Route 78 in New Jersey.

 That's a trip of nearly 300 miles and the final leg of the journey, Clinton Sgt. Jay Hunter said, was made behind a tow truck or atop a flatbed trailer. The Viper was stripped of its bumper, hood, quarter panels, roof, doors and seats before it was left in the Clinton parking lot. The tires were still on it.

The body parts for a Viper are either fiberglass or carbon fiber, depending on the part and the year, and replacement costs for the stripped parts is about 25thou

NICB prevents another stolen car from leaving the country! Hooray!

Stolen in 1992 in Mississippi, and found by NICB, the National Insurance Crime Bureau, in California in 2012. No information about what occurred with it in the 20 missing years.

stolen car is then sold, to a 72 year old for $300, and when the original owner is contacted, lets the old guy keep it. THAT is a good samaritan

Last week, a thief stole a 1993 Chrysler New Yorker from a house in Boonville, Indiana and then sold it to a 72-year-old man for $300, in the rightful owner’s name. The 72-year-old man, however, started to have a nagging feeling that the deal was just too good to be true and so he gave the car’s rightful owner, Derk West, a call after looking him up

Mr. West met up with the 72-year-old who had unwittingly bought his stolen Chrysler and determined the senior citizen needed the vehicle more than he did. As Mr. West told WFIE, “…72-years-old and fixed income. Stuff like that. He was out $300, he was out the money and he was just, really upset. He told us, ‘Too good to be true.’ I just drove the car for several years as a work car…By the time it was over, I worked it out, I just wound up giving him the car. He needed it worse than I did.”

And the bastard that stole the car was captured by cops "was caught because he had signed the receipt using his social security number."
